Lemon, described as “the No.1 lemon-flavoured carbonated drink in Japan for over 20 years” (via Suntory), is the closest comparison to Kate's favorite beverage. Unfortunately, Boom Boom Lemon is not a real drink. The soda was created solely for the purposes of the film, but it does have a close equivalent in real life. Even as Kate's own idea of family is shattered with Varrick's double-crossing, she cannot help but still crave his first gift to her: Boom Boom Lemon.

In Kate, she and Ani bond over both feeling alone in the world, and Kate's confrontation with Kijima spurs him into taking a more active role watching over his niece. Winstead played a similar role in Birds of Prey protecting a vulnerable child from corrupt characters. Despite the rocky start to their relationship, Kate feels protective of Ani. In the months since, Ani has grown bitter and lonely. Kate kidnaps Ani early on as an attempt to lure Kijima out of hiding, all the while haunted by the memory of the last time she saw Ani, which is to kill her father.
